Harnessing the Human, Resourcing Evolutionary Solutions

Posted on Apr 25th, 2006 by Lauren : mammal Lauren
There are so many people hungry for inspiration and work that truly engages them and calls forth their deep gifts. There are so many people who don't like their work, who feel no meaning in it, or worse, feel compromised by it or oppressed by a sense of misalignment. I think that many don't understand their discontent, or even know that it need not be that way, but there is an awareness of hope or despair. Some consciously feel the futility of doing work that sustains the material, social, cultural, and psychological structures of an economy rooted in inadequate wisdom and unenlightened motives. But they feel trapped or exhausted. I think that a great many people suffer a general state of disenchantment with life and work, and a sense of being burdened by obligations and overwhelmed by confusion. I think many people experience a desperate longing to feel a sense of meaning or purpose or inspiration, and long for an opportunity to invest their energies, time, love, and life force... in REAL work.

As visionaries I think much of our work is to
source ourselves in inspiration and create the structures that direct these abundant human resources towards work that addresses the great problems of our times, to create opportunities for "making a living" that truly do make a living.

This is just the beginning of the conversation...

as expected, as hoped for, you share so much when you write, and you write so well!

have been broadcasting a quote from wilber that, perhaps, bears repeating here and speaks to the issue you raise:

” …[W]ithout second-tier thinking, as Graves, Beck, and Cowan point out, humanity is destined to remain victims of a global 'auto-immune disease,' where various memes turn on each other in an attempt to establish supremacy.”

and yet:

“…[T]he major problem remains: not, how can we get everybody to the integral wave or higher, but how can we arrange the health of the overall spiral , as billions of humans continue to pass through it, from one end to the other, year in and year out?

In other words, most of the work that needs to be done is work to make the lower (and foundational) waves more healthy in their own terms. The major reforms do not involve how to get a handful of boomers into second-tier, but how to feed the starving millions at the most basic waves; how to house the homeless millions at the simplest of levels; how to bring healthcare to the millions who do not possess it. An integral vision is one of the least pressing issues on the face of the planet.”

Lauren,
Your words are very fulfilling, they create awareness. I wish there was something we could do to achieve the structures you talk about; sometimes I feel we are all fighting against an unstoppable current of unconscious evil, or perhaps it’s very consciously happening.

You two make me happy. Thank you for your thoughts and comments!

Rhoberto,
yes, that very comment of Ken's is one I remind myself of frequently.

Did you see the new video up on IN this week: “Planting Seed Projects on the Rich Rez”? Ken talks about how the most effective projects are those developed from integral perspectives, but that the successes achieved tend to be modest and take awhile to reveal themselves. The difference between the integrally-informed  programs and others is that those which do not have an AQAL approach end up being unsustainable. But the idea isn't to get everyone to 2nd tier ASAP, but rather to “arrange the health of the overall spiral” and my understanding is that the most successful  “arrangements” will be integral.

Integral leadership is necessary.
